Everybody, Everywhere

“Clean up, clean up, everybody do your share…”

Ahh, the classic cleanup song. And don’t you know, it really makes cleaning up so much fun!

Yech.

I know this will come as a huge shock to anyone who’s visited us, but I hate cleaning the house.  And it’s just possible that I tend to procrastinate on cleaning – perhaps a little too much.  When I announced last week that it was time to clean up, my 4.5 year old shouted “Hooray!”  Uh, yeah…hooray.

Anyway, I have a couple of different approaches to cleaning the house.  The first is the “everyone helps” approach.  This is usually what happens, and is usually the LEAST effective approach.  I end up micromanaging the kids, and after a little while it becomes an all-out attempt to keep them from fighting over some cleaning instrument.  And since I don’t trust them with squirt bottles of ANY variety in the house…well, forget it.

A more effective approach is the “do it myself while the kids are distracted” method.  This either happens at naptime, or I violate the no-TV rule.  Don’t worry, that rule is only for the kids, not for me.  Are you crazy?  Both of those things allow me to get things, but I usually get distracted with more important stuff (*cough*shredheads, programming, twitter*cough*).

Which brings me to the third approach, which we do every other week.  Hire a cleaning service.  :)   It may not get done exactly the way I want it to, but at least something happens!  Plus, how often do you see this after YOU clean?

Just like at a first class hotel!

Of course, you probably don’t see this on top of your fridge after you clean either.  Maybe it’s time for a talk with the cleaners about how they’re spending THEIR time…

So how do you clean?  Write about it and you could win!

  1. congrats on your PBN win!!!

Getting the kids involved takes a little longer at first but pays off later on. Give them tasks they can handle, turn on some music and give them a reward when its all done. By the time they are teenagers, you’ll have a professional cleaning crew.
